Falafels for 2

This is one of my favourite meals, my version of the Indian classic.
Patties:
240g chickpeas (a tin)
finely chopped half an onion
breadcrumbs (slightly stale bread is best)
chopped clove of garlic
half tsp cumin
half tsp coriander
half tsp chilli powder
1 egg
dish of plain flour
oil
To Serve:
6 pittas
salad
plain yogurt
sweet chilli sauce
In a large bowl mash the chickpeas with a fork until they are all mashed. Add the onion, garlic and spices; use hands to toss until evenly mixed. Break egg into the mixture to bind it, mix it all in. Now add enough breadcrumbs until the mixture begins to bind more solidly. Shape into patties (I make about 6). Dust with plain flour and shallow fry until golden brown on each side. Serve in the pittas with all the extras.
If anyone uses flax seed or tofu as an alternative to egg to make this recipe vegan, does it work?
If anyone tries this let me know how you get on!
