I think it might might mean that he has a sense of humor, (I have to admit that up to now I had not considered that possibility). Maybe he is even human, who knows?
For now I'd be prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Just an aside about having been in the hitler youth:
In the 1960's or so there used to be a standing joke in Austria (which had been enthusiastically annexed by germany at some stage [after all, Uncle Adolf was originally Austrian rather than German]) which went a bit like this.
Q: What's the difference between a man who says he was a nazi and a man who sais he was not a nazi?
A: The man who said he was a nazi is an honest man!
Just something to think about. It is so easy to judge someone for something that was done in a particular set of circumstances. But no-one knows how we ourselves would have acted in the same circumstances.
Blessings

You folks are scarin' me....lol =D>
Well, at least we know he thinks gay marriages are "wicked..."
Seems like the gay marriage proponents in Spain were right on the ball in terms of presenting a challenge to his Holyness' infallible authority...

i've seen a new trend on teh intarweb these days, what i've deemed "one trick ponies." someone gets a hold of a single fact (schools can give the information they have on you to recruiters, the Pope was in Hitler Youth, etc) and bring it up at every relevant opportunity. i'm not blaming anyone here, no, i've just seen "OMFG TEH POPMAN IS A NAZII!!11!!!" all over the internet.
he's too conservative for my liking, but i imagine that comes with the job of being Pope. he's pretty up in years, though, and i think that's what a lot of the papal council or whatever had in mind when they picked him. John Paul II had a really long run as the pope, they don't want that again so soon.
but Wikipedia says he's an accomplished pianist, so he can't be THAT bad. anyone who plays the piano is OK by me.

...'tis most evident and plain that simple Nature is the most harmless, inoffensive, and virtuous mistress. 'Tis she alone, if she were permitted, that better instructs the world than all the inventions of Man. --Aphra Behn, Oroonoko

Saw me praying in my own soul
Death is unfair - That's real pain

I miss my hope; My will to live
My last farewell forever, all alone"
