Sanitizing Jesus For Capitalism
http://www.rense.com/general76/tdantk.htm
"It has been a long time since the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947, and when they were translated it became a problem for the world of capitalists. Jesus' values and the Essene were more in line with Socialism than Capitalism and usury. "
Would we pagans be better off if christianity wasn't hijacked by Constantine and all that followed?

A friend of mine once said: "Jesus had a great idea, too bad they made a religion out of it.........You can change an idea, but a religion?"Lucus Rose wrote:

Does that answer your question?

Possibly not. Islam would still be out there and anti-Pagan. Perhaps if Christianity took a different route at the beginning, we'd just prolong the inevitable. Extremism can happen to anyone, as soon as you have extremely strong feelings about an issue, you can slip into extremism. I think what stops me denouncing Christianity completely is that whilst I've met some pretty nasty fundies, there are Christians in my family who I love and who (I feel) do a good job as Christians. They remind me that Christians aren't all bad...and that the ones who are bad aren't really being true Christians.Lucus Rose wrote:Would we pagans be better off if Christianity wasn't hijacked by Constantine and all that followed?
Jesus was all about love, OK so the guy got angry at the temple too, but most of what he talked about was appreciating each other and doing good. If people actually stuck to that and left behind all the Old Testament blood and fire and brimstone, and condeming others to hell, the world would be a better place! And what I say to people opposed to gay adoption on religious grounds is "Think back to the company Jesus kept and then tell me he would be outraged that two men in a loving relationship would want to give a good home to a parentless child?"

=D> Beautifully said, Jescissa.
I do not believe the world would be better off without Constantine's actions. Constantine was, after all, a Pagan, many forget. Christianity has done a lot of good and a lot of bad. It inspired many to help the less fortunate, to share with their brothers, to open their homes and their hearts to travellers and strangers. It has also bred hatred, greed, and war.
We're all on a fantastic ride through the universe, and I don't believe one thing in our past should not have happened. Perhaps that is my vice. I believe "all is as it should be."

Besides, if I remember Christian religion correctly (which I'll admit, is hazy at bestAnd what I say to people opposed to gay adoption on religious grounds is "Think back to the company Jesus kept and then tell me he would be outraged that two men in a loving relationship would want to give a good home to a parentless child?"

So don't tell me that it can't be the right "religiously proper" way to raise a child!

Thanks CHL!
That's a good point! Someone should point that out - religiously sanctioned same-sex relationship adoption!Kitsune wrote:Besides, if I remember Christian religion correctly (which I'll admit, is hazy at best ), isn't that how Judas joined Jesus's band of Merry Men, at the ripe age of 10 or 12?

Yes because Constantine made Christianity a state religion, and those that did not submit were persecuted. Christianity was never designed to be a political movement. What Constantine actually did was set the ball rollingWould we pagans be better off if christianity wasn't hijacked by Constantine and all that followed?
for the Holy Roman Empire.

My point was to answer the question, and historically speaking if it was not for Constantine the pure religion of Christianity would have prospered, as it did for 250 years prior to him being emperor. Constantine made his imprint on church history so much so that we still feel the bruise. He was the arch type for future popes, and the people suffered greatly all through the centuries, and now only through a dictatorship, and an aggressive political agenda will be the only thing that will satisfy the Church's(as a whole) hungerRagnar wrote:So, what is your point?
and it will based on the groundwork that Constantine put into motion.
So the answer to the question is yes Christianity was hijacked by Constantine
and yes he did get the ball rolling.
