Apparently 56% of people don't believe in witchcraft, what's the odds that most of them would freak out thinking that one of us would cast spells on them if we moved into their street?
I'd avoid Salem the same way I avoid Alton Towers and Disneyland!
It doesn't help her case that she actually promotes the 'grisly hag' look. What's with all the black and dark colours? When I practice the craft I prefer to wear greens and browns to blend in with the earth around me!Cabot is mailing letters to civic leaders across Massachusetts warning them of the legal perils of portraying witches as grisly old hags.

Um, I wonder if she got the memo that the US Dept of Veteran's Affairs ADDED the Pentacle to their list of faith symbols permited on Veteran's tombstones this year?
And yeah, she's definately pushing that crone thing pretty hard...but that's most likely what speaks to her.
I wear purples, blues, gray, silver and black...b/c those are my power colors.

I find it hard to take Laurie Cabot seriously, she seems a bit pantomime hag-ish. Fair enough if her power colours are dark, but I don't think that going around wearing dark colours and looking generally crone-like and then turning around and telling shop owners not to push the crone-look for their Halloween witches is a bit rich. She doesn't have a leg to stand on!

I saw this report about 3 years ago I thnk when the marker thing was just another indignity, not actually a "problem" yet.
She does seem fake, but we have a store in Calgary like that. I don't really like it because it seems to cater to the halloween driven population (they keep their halloween decorations up all year). Grimwell knows the owners and they are through and through pagans, it's just that they're trying to appeal to a bigger crowd.
And especially in Salem, you need to be "out there" before anyone who isn't pagan will even bother giving you the time of day...

Trying to create a world, even in words, is good occupational therapy for lunatics who think they're God, and an excellent argument for Polytheism. -S.M. Stirling

We used to have an amazing metaphysical store here called Chakanas. I miss it dearly. One of the owners moved a town over, and another moved to the island.
What is left in my town is a place where I am sure they deal with much darker realms. My niece freaked out in there, and I am not comfortable there. I feel oily when I come out, so I never go in.
Other than that, fifteen minutes away on the edge of the next city is a very good metaphysical store where I usually buy my crystals, books, etc. The people there are a little older, and quite knowledgable, but keep rather silent, which I feel is quite good. One of the ladies can be a bit flakey, but she is very caring.
